Week 2 Recap

Everyone at the club now knows we are under renovation.  Mother Nature has been on our side with an incredible stretch of weather which allows for incredible progress.  Everyone involved with the project has found stride and became a well oiled machine.  What I find to be most interesting are the number of members who travel out to see progress without clubs strapped to a cart.  The curiosity and educated questions continue and conversations about golf become more and more pure.

To summarize the past week is rather lengthy to say the least.  Here is a hole by hole progress report from last week:

Hole 1
Plantings around tee removed, tee squared and perimeter sodded.  Rough bunker shaping has started.

Hole 4
Sod stripped and bunker shaping complete.

Hole 5
Sod stripped, bunkers shaped, drainage and sand to be installed this week.  Mounds behind green removed.

Hole 6
Sod stripped, bunkers shaped, and ready for drainage.  Mounds and trees to be removed. New tees roughed in.

Hole 7
New fairway bunkers ready for drainage and finish work.  New championship tee located.

Hole 12
Bunkers complete and grassed, old fairway bunker removed.  Collar and approach completed to the right, will finish up left side this week.

Hole 13
Bunkers complete.  Collar and approach expansion complete.  Fairway expansions to be completed.

Hole 14
Only a new championship tee remains.  Bunkers and approach complete.  This hole will remain closed for the season to allow for sod establishment.

This piece of equipment has been worth it's weight in gold.
Versatile, powerful and lightweight, a Superintendent's dream.

With a few more tree removals, 14 has never looked better

Hole 15
Bunkers shaped and drained, sod around bunkers to be installed this week along with approach and collar expansion.

Hole 17
Green side bunker completed over the weekend.  Collar and approach expansion left.

17 rarely disappoints for early morning photos.

Our next move on the course will be to strip sod around holes 1, 2, 3, and 8 so Bruce and Kye can start shaping bunkers.  Our contractor, MacCurrach Golf, will have another load of sod installed mid week to keep exposed bunkers safe from any potential rains that lead to washouts.  The pace of work has been nothing short of impressive and we are tracking well ahead of time.  If everything goes as planned with good weather, we should have bunker shaping complete by early November.

For the remainder of the season, we will have 9 holes open at any one given time.  For those wanting to play 18, you will have to make two tee times to play those same 9 holes a second time.  Please contact the golf shop to make arrangements.  Thank you Curt for a very smart idea, it will make everyone's time on the course more enjoyable.
