Looks like Spring has at least temporarily sprung its way into January. It is a balmy 44 degrees at the golf course and could not be better for working outside. My staff is loving this weather as they continue tree work on the course after a couple weeks of being cooped up inside painting ball washers and other course amenities. The guys have almost completed painting during this time and are close to being ready for the upcoming season.

With this weather being as great as it is for you and I, it has proven to be less than desired for our turf. Warm temps and rain over the weekend has melted what was great snow cover and formed a layer of ice on greens and other turf across the course. While it is early to make any predictions about injury or problems with our playing surfaces, I will keep you posted as necessary with updates on this blog. This is all eerily similar to a year ago when we warmed to 60 degrees with an inch of rain. The potential upside to this year is the temperatures not being as warm, so we will see if that made a difference this time around. Look for a Winter Injury Tutorial in an upcoming post.

There is just enough ice on 6 green to cover the turf. |
